Ancient Qiaoxi Bridge and Zither Cave for Study are located in Rainforest World.
Qiaoxi Bridge, built in the tenth year of Shunzhi period in the Qing Dynasty (the seventh year of Yongli period in Southern Ming Dynasty, 1653), is one of the oldest stone bridges in Xiamen in existence. The bridge is composed of granite strips, with a total length of 6 meters and a width of 1.5 meters. The east end is placed on a boulder, while the west end is supported by a stone pier with a height of 3 meters and a width of 2.2 meters. The boulder next to the stone bridge is engraved with “Qiaoxi Bridge” in regular script, and the inscription “Recorded by Yu Hong from Daizhou in October of the seventh year of Yongli period”. Ancient people often chose to live by water. There were several brooks on Wanshi Mountain that never dried throughout the year. So people dwelt and lived along the brooks, and made a living by cutting firewood and reclaiming wasteland. Today, there are still countless unknown stone carvings and relics nearby, indicating the previous history here.
There is a cave about 100 meters away from Qiaoxi Bridge. The cave is engraved with the word “Zither Cave” in regular script, and the inscription “Written by Zheng Junyang from South Lake in early May of Xinmao Year in Qianlong period (1771)”. The cave is 5 meters high, 13 meters deep and 3 meters wide. There is a stone in the cave, with the shape of Chinese zither. The brook flows under the stone and sounds like a zither, hence the name “Zither Cave”. It is said that Qiaoxi Bridge and Zither Cave used to be the places where Zheng Chenggong studied when he stationed in Xiamen, so they were called “Zither Cave for Study”. This site is a municipal cultural relic protection unit.
