A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards· Elephant Trunk Peak
Sources:2021-10-11

Both “Elephant Trunk Peak” and “A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards” are located in Rose Garden.

“A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards” is one of the eight small and medium-sized scenic spots among the old twenty-four scenic spots in Xiamen. In the past, there were no stretches of trees on Wanshi Mountain. Seen from afar, there are nothing but grotesque stones. Rows of rocks, facing the same direction, look like courtiers holding “scepters” in worship of the emperor, hence the name “A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards”. Today, the mountain is luxuriantly green, and only the stone carvings are left for future generations.

The “Elephant Trunk Peak” is composed of two boulders measuring more than two meters high and thinly separated, resembling an elephant trunk. The inscription of “Elephant Trunk Peak” on the boulder is handwritten by Li Zhang, the coastal defense commander of Xiamen during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty. He is also the inscriber of the words “A Thousand Scepters Facing Skywards”.

There is a large lawn in the Rose Garden, and many tourists pay a visit to it on holidays. In the northeast corner, the roseleaf-shaped music stage has a simple but elegant color, and the unique style is blended in the surrounding environment. There is a pool of lotus under the stage. In summer, the wind comes down with fragrance of lotus. The branches of all kinds of roses are filled with flowers by the pool, which are fresh and attractive. Three flower pergolas, decorated with roses and costustoot, compete with each other to demonstrate their beauty. Three or five bosom friends sit and chat by the pool. Tasting tea, listening to Zen, and letting the breeze stroke your face near the Elephant Trunk Peak, you will feel perfectly at home.
